Approximately two and a half years ago, right before my 24th birthday, I hopped on a plane in Newark, New Jersey to venture across the Pacific Ocean to start a new chapter of my life in Taiwan. My time here has had its ups and downs, but I would say that overall, my experience here has been very positive.

If I were to summarize each year in Taiwan with a short phrase, this is what it would be:

  • Year 1: “Lost puppy in a new land”
  • Year 2: “Challenge accepted”
  • Year 3: my phrase for now: “Branch out”

In a future article, I can go into detail about each theme, but for now, I want to talk about my time here as a whole.

When you move to a new ccountry, you may experience sensory overload from the new scenery, language, cultural differences, and the preferred ways of doing things that may differ from what you consider to be “normal.” Over time, you begin to pick up new habits that become normal to your new everyday lifestyle.
