A comment my mom’s friend said when she visited the US coming from Jamaica. “What’s the point of having trees in your yard if they don’t grow any fruit?” In the Jamaican countryside, if you’re hungry and don’t have money, people will literally find a tree with ripe fruit and climb it. Fair game.

It’s interesting how Americans who have home with spacious yards and don’t grow anything.

There definitely seems to be a growing movement of going back to the basics in the US and adopting the habits of our ancestors from a few generations ago. The FDA is finally taking the [small] steps in getting harmful chemicals out of the food. Better late than never I guess.

To be honest, with the way inflation is going, I suspect more people will adopt more “Great Depression habits” ie the old school way of making things last and being sustainable in a more organic way.
