Age Is Just A Number: How My Week Suddenly Became Inspirational

It was another day in sports fandom until I discovered a pleasant surprise.

My two favorite sports, track and field (athletics) and gymnastics, are having their World Championship competitions within the same time frame (more or less). A huge “Yea” for me, but this also where I’ll probably say goodbye to productivity for the next two weeks. Fans of both sports are always extremely excited about what we call the “Pre-Olympic Year Worlds” because we get a preview of the potential contenders for the Tokyo Games next summer.

Since these two sports don’t get as much love from sports networks on television, I’ve been spending my evenings on the gymternet (gymternet=gymnastics + internet…yes is a thing) and the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) websites and media channels watching recap videos, of the rounds, finals and the podium training sessions. These are all normal things that I do whenever major competitions like these occur.

For track and field, their world championships began last weekend so some athletes have already competed in the event finals and the medalists have received their awards. The qualifications for gymnastics didn’t start yet, but for now, I’ve been enjoying the training videos and post podium training interviews.
