Does A Perfect Country Exist?
Or is it only a fantasy?
The perfect place….
It seems to be something everyone is yearning for, myself included. Every day I see people complain about how xyz is wrong in their home country (or current place of residence) and life is so much better elsewhere as we look at these countries from afar with our rose-tinted glasses.
It makes me wonder: Does a perfect country exist?
Well….if we look at the world right now with everything going on, there are definitely places that are clear losers (you can be the judge of who those losers are).
BUT…..are there any clear winners, where things are fine and dandy for all?
The Elephant In The Room…
When people fantasize about other countries, I notice a common theme:
Their country of birth isn’t offering what they need, they want something that is absent and nonexistent in their respective home countries.
For the people who have taken the leap to reside elsewhere and paint a glamorous picture of where they currently live, I can’t help but notice that everyone who does this have one thing in common:
Privilege.
White privilege. Western privilege. Class privilege. Foreigner privilege. Male privilege. Blending in without trying privilege. The list goes on.
It is what it is. What you do with that privilege is up to you. Use it wisely.
When you fall into those categories and live your best life, it’s easy to believe that the place is 110% perfect. Some of these same people also tend to hang around similar types of people thus putting themselves in a bubble that shields them from the reality that may be singing a different tune.
Look, I’m not here to police people how to live. I’m just saying, you ought to know that you might be sharing #fakenews and may want to double check your blanket statements.
We always want what we don’t have…
Unhappy people are everywhere. I’ve met people from both of the so-called developed and developing world tell me how fed up they are with home and how life will be so much better elsewhere.
Unhappy people from developed nations believe that life will be better in a tropical developing nation (or in the case of some of my fellow Americans any type of nation with a good quality of life, social benefits, and/or lack of guns).
Unhappy people from the developing world believe that life will better in a developed nation where they can maximize their earnings to provide for their family, climb up the socioeconomic ladder, have more opportunities and/or live in a place with less corruption.
We all want what we don’t have. Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side and sometimes it’s not. Life is a gamble. It really depends on how well you play your cards. Your decisions based on your timing, execution, and luck will determine the ending results in your new found coveted home.
Sooo….is there a perfect country?
*Yes.
*No.
…….and everything in between.
A “perfect country” exists, but it’s highly relatively, so there isn’t a unanimous answer. To me, a perfect country is one where the BS doesn’t impact your life that much. If it doesn’t at all, that’s even better…..I guess (unless you have a heavy heart for humanity).
If you are lucky enough to find that perfect place (or be born there), then congratulations!
