Hi Michael,

Thank you refer the response. I understand the differences between natural sugar vs refined sugar, complex carbs vs simple carbs, quality of calories, etc. Sadly, there are people who believe that here are no differences and regurgitate this misinformation because these things are often found in celebrity magazines (and the like) and by some fitness personalities on social media. Based on some of the interactions with people I know in real life, there seems to be more of a fixation on calories and macros versus the ingredients and nutritional value.

For example: I’ve had friends tell me to “be careful” when eating a bowl of sweet fruits because it’s “too much sugar.” People have looked at me crazy for eating a very large (though nutrient dense) meal. I know a person who opted for a protein bar over real food because it had more protein and less calories, yet the protein bar was less likely keep one fuller longer plus over half of the ingredients are unrecognizable.
