I agree. I always found wearing weave/extensions as accessories like wearing makeup or fake nails. I think people find the hair comments annoying because we don't do that in regards to other forms of enhancements. We generally don't say "I love your nails! Are they real?" or "Nice eyebrows! Did you draw them in?" So I think it's the lack of consistency. Black women are always asked these questions because of the belief that our hair can't grow long while other races who wear weave are generally left alone.
Personally, I don't mind telling people about my hair. I live in East Asia, a region of the world that hardly has anyone that looks like us. Natural or weave, people are generally mind blown about my hair because the majority have never seen anything like it before, so I get comments and questions fairly often. I don't mind explaining it to them. They're genuinely curious because they have to perm their hair to make it curly, but it'll never look afro-textured. One thing I noticed on this side of the world, is that it's a cultural norm to talk about one's appearance. If they can see it's fair game to them. If it's something that can't be seen (feelings, mental illness, etc) you have to address those things very carefully as it can be offensive depending on the situation. In the West, it's mostly in reverse.
