I ate vegetarian/vegan for about 7 years. I moved to another country three years ago, and found dining out to be tricky sometimes. There have been times where I unintentionally ordered something that had meat in it (even though the menu never said anything about the dish having meat). When this happened, I would take the meat out/pick around. There were times when I accidentally ate pieces of meat.

I stopped eating meat for experimental reasons and around year 7, I started to become curious about how my body would l react to adding it back into my diet. I started with fish/seafood. After that I tried chicken, then tried steak/beef burgers, and etc. It felt weird at first. I wasn't used to the texture since I rarely ate vegan foods that tried to mimic meat texture, but eventually I adjusted.

I still eat vegetarian most of the time since they're my favorite meals to cook. But if I go to a restaurant that doesn't have any veggie options (or I don't like the veggies options) or someone else cooks for me and it's not vegetarian, I don't need to feel apprehensive about it. I just eat it. It's not like meat has zero nutrition. I'm still getting nutrients.

People are free to eat how they please, but unless it's an absolute must, I think people are shooting themselves in the foot when they feel like they have to fully stick to a diet label by any means necessary. The only reason a food should be rejected is if you don't like the taste or how your body reacts to it (allergies, digestive issues, etc).

The best diet isn't what's trending. It's largely based on which foods are native to your geographical location and your lifestyle. Going from a fairly balanced omnivore to herbivore back to a mostly omnivore and living in a country where certain foods aren't available due to them not growing there honestly shows how adaptable humans are and explains why the common diet varies from country to country.
