I lived abroad (in Taiwan) for 7 years then returned a few months ago. I miss my lifestyle there, but I have returned with some Taiwanese habits. It's also a plus, when you live in a metro area with a large international population.

I think a lot of Americans could learn a lot by shadowing foreigners in the country who don't move like the avereage American. Half of my family is from Jamaica, so I got a hint of it growing up, but as an adult who has lived in an unfamiliar culture that imprinted onto me, I fully get it.

I know a lot of Americans are exploring options about life overseas especially after this circus election. However greener pastures do not necessarily mean you will be happier. The grass is greener where you water it.

I was happy prior to moving. I was happy after moving. And I'm still happy after returning.

The most important point for anyone wanting to move overseas: Wherever you go, there you are. You can't outrun yourself. Especially when you move to another country alone like I did. You will learn a whole lot about yourself. I am very thankful for the experience because it did help me make peace with a lot of things in life.
