I played sports for majority of life. From the recreational level to Division 1 college. I could lift a lot of weight but I SUCKED at body weight exercises. Doing things like pull ups and push-ups were embarrassing (albeit my sport mostly used lower body and core muscles plus pull-ups are generally hard to do many reps when you’re taller). Doing more calisthenics and functional movement activities like capoeira and acrobatics have given me so much more body awareness and mobility.

Calisthenics is great, however I think leaning more towards “general movement” (popularized by Ido Portal) opens the doors to more functionality training and mastery of the body.
