I think some are naturally built to succeed in certain sports. There's a reason why many tall people are nudged toward certain sports and why short people are nudged toward certain sports. However they need to tools to use the given shape to become an athlete.
In regards to the sentences I highlight I think this is important, because in sports where most athletes are lean, coaches will shame athletes for not looking that way. I remember one time I set a new personal record in my event in track and field, and shortly after a "congratulations" it was followed with a "you'll do better if you lean out more" No surprise eating disorders are popular in sports.
