I used to be a collegiate athlete so we had a lot hard training days sometimes twice a day. I had teammates who were trying to lose weight to be leaner. They would normally just decrease their portion sizes and/or minimize carbs that are low in nutritional density like rice, bread, and pasta. The common weight loss tactics.
I was never intentionally trying to lose weight, but when I went home for Christmas, my parents said I looked thinner and thought I was on a special diet or stressed out from classes and missing meals. Out of curiosity, I decided to track my calories for a few months. I was averaging over 3000 calories a day and still managed to appear thinner (never actually weighed myself on the scale to confirm how much). It was at that moment I realized calories in vs calories out isn’t the best advice. There’s a lot more to it.
