It’s a nice confirmation to know that this method helps a lot of people learn another language.
This is how I learned Portuguese without ever stepping foot in a Portuguese speaking nation. The first time I watched a Brazillian show on Netflix, I dubbed it in English but had the Portuguese subtitles. A few months later, I watched the series again in Portuguese (but with English subtitles). After that I realized I didn’t need to rely on English audio, so from then on, I continued to watch Brazilian TV shows with English subtitles so I can understand the plot. And then weeks or months later, I revisited the same shows and just watched them with Portuguese subtitles so I can write down words or phrases that I didn’t know. Since I already knew what happened, I could focus more on the vocabulary. Other than short YouTube videos, I haven’t watched anything in Portuguese without the subtitles, but I think I should start doing it.
