This seems to be a common trait with a lot of people who move to “greener pastures”. They really sell it to their friends, family, audience about how great a place is while conveniently leaving out the harsh and/or hidden realities of a place. These things are often omitted from the conversation because it has not happened to them and/or they have not personally witnessed it.

The US definitely has a reputation of only marketing their good side, but in general, I’ve learned to become wary of people who talk about their homelands/new place of residence as if it were problem free. No place is perfect, it may only seem that way if one never experiences the problems. Sometimes all it takes it seeing a place for yourself how messed up things are.
