We are proud [af] of our labels. And sometimes rightfully, so. For some of them, you worked really hard for it. These labels can sometimes give an idea of what a person may be like. People like to show off how important they or at least feel like they are. Nowadays, every job title looks hella fancy on LinkedIn. I can call myself an “Early Childhood Language Development Professional” when I really mean that I teach little kids a foreign language (but that sounds so basic and lame).

Have you ever noticed, that almost everyone’s bio on social media typically looks like this (more or less) Age. Location. Label 1. Label 2. Label 3. Label 4. Label 5, and then followed by a cliche quote or something? Hey, I’m poking fun of myself too, because I definitely do it too. We want to show the world where we stand. We want to market ourselves to a specific audience. We use these platforms as a stream of income and therefore niche down.

Some people love their labels so much that they have become a slave to them or think that it’s an actual personality trait. Labels are the go-to elevator pitch for making yourself…
